About Us

Deborah Doyle created Asciano in 1985 and she has been making crochet hooks and knitting needles for most of that time for increasingly sophisticated and appreciative knitters and crocheters. Our work is now mostly made in a small town in the volcanic highlands of Central Mexico where Deborah, having a determined and adventurous bent, built a workshop, brought down all the equipment, tools and supplies, and trained an extended family group in the intricacies of turning.

We are a productive, happy, tightly-knit small unit that provides self-respect and social cohesiveness to this impoverished, largely indigenously populated area. Deborah continues to impose her exacting standards on all production, to make special orders, and to spend several months a year in Mexico.
